Artist's Description
Hurricane Mk1, RAF serial R4118, squadron code UP-W, UK civil registration G-HUPW, at the Royal International Air Tattoo, Fairford, Gloucestershire, England.
The aircraft was delivered new to 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron in August 1940. It flew 49 combat sorties from Croydon, England, destroying 3 enemy aircraft and damaging 2 others. R4118 is the only Hurricane from the Battle of Britain still flying.
Digitally hand drawn aircraft with photographic background. Plane illustration based on photograph by Daniel Wales Images. http://www.deviantart.com/art/Hawker-Hurricane-Pair-626881186

That's interesting about the background photo manipulation. You certainly improved the image doing that.
Douglas Castleman
Really love this one, John. Great hand rendering of the Hurricane, and you picked a great background.
John Wills replied:
Thanks Douglas. The photographs take shape by applying overlays with multiple color and fades from different angles.. I can easily spend a couple of hours in post processing to marry the subject and background together. Thanks again.

I think this is your sweet spot...what you really love to do.....aircraft with history! And all your aircraft images give me out-of-body experiences it seems! lol! I could see you doing a coffee table book of these kinds of paintings with the write up of history behind it. Of course you would need a super-good publisher with excellent printing capabilities.....um....I get carried away sometimes ;-)
John Wills replied:
Hi, thanks for your insight, and I like this phrase "sweet spot"... However, I still love drawing many different subjects, I think this turned out a little better than my previous ones and the historical element helped legitimize it. I've been wanting to be more historically accurate with the aviation works and finally got there. Thanks for noticing too! You're very observant. :)

Wowwwww.....a lot of detailed history as well as in image....finely, beautifully crafted...and that Skyyyyy!!! You have been really immersed in this! As usual it feels like I am suspended in space up there watching it L/F/t
John Wills replied:
Thanks Denise! Hard to believe I did this in one day. When I first got the program, it would have taken at least a week and half. Glad you like it, much appreciate the kind comments.
